Medium for indoor growing
Plants can live on soil, in an inert medium or with their roots dipped in the water.
Soil
The growing in the soil is the most immediate one. Some good universal sterilized loam for green plants will be enough for the vegetative phase. If you want (but it's not necessary), you can fertilize (just a very little) in the vegetative stage with a growing manure (mainly nitrogenous) and with a p-k manure in the flowering stage (it's advised to don't fertilize if there are not particular deficiency).
The advantages of the soil are the easy availability, the low cost and the scant use of fertilizers. The disadvantages are: the slow growing, an insufficient airing, the dirt.
Coconut (coir)
The inert medium growing (such as wit coconut), is a right medium between soil and hydroponic. Coconut is gained from the coir, it does not have any nourishing substance and so you will have to use special coconut products, almost at each watering.
It has several advantages, such as a good rapidity of growing (when you will find the right dose of fertilizer), the easiness of management of the (unavoidable) faults, its reasonable cost. The dirt and the frequently use of fertilizers are the disadvantages.
Hydroponic
At last, hydroponic growing is the more effective system for your indoor growing. Hydroponic technique means that your plants will grow up with their roots dipped in a feeding solution.
It needs various elements: a 8lt (more or less) lightproof container for each plant, with a pierced lid. In these holes we will have to put perforated pots (or netpots are better), full of expanded clay (already washed). The water in the tank must be aerated with some pump (those that are used in the aquarius), bound with porous stones. Moreover, it's advisable to use measurement tools, like a PH meter and a CE meter (in order to avoid overfertilizations or lacks and to favour the best growing).
This method is very tidy, you can easily manage it (and not necessarily everyday) but it has high costs.
In this site is available an easy hydroponic system building guide.
